Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter Established on April 15, 2010, by the decision of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter is a dedicated haven for stray cats and dogs in the Abu Dhabi Emirate. Under the management of the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, the shelter adopts international best practices drawn from experiences in Europe, the USA, and Australia, reflecting the commitment of the Abu Dhabi government to set a benchmark in global animal welfare. The shelter initiated a comprehensive Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program on June 1, 2010, aiming to control the population of feral cats and dogs. During Phase 1, neutered cats were returned to their original areas, while adoptable dogs awaited new homes.
The Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter's catteries and kennels opened, providing a nurturing environment for adoptable cats and dogs. Cats unable to find homes are compassionately returned to their familiar surroundings post-neutering. The shelter, located between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Shamkha, operates under the care of the ADFH Pet Care Center, emphasizing a humane approach to the treatment and rehoming of cats and dogs in need.
