Construction and engineering projects require expansion joints, commonly referred to as movement joints. Due to variations in temperature, humidity, and other external conditions, these joints are made to support the expansion and contraction of building materials. Without expansion joints, the stress brought on by these changes may rupture or cause cracks in the building components, among other structural problems. In order to permit movement without impacting the integrity of a structure, expansion joints are frequently built of a flexible material, such as rubber or metal, and positioned in key points all throughout the building. Buildings, bridges, pipelines, and roads are just a few of the structures where they can be found. In addition to helping reduce noise and vibration, expansion joints are a crucial part of infrastructure projects.
